The Ride
Valleyfair Amusement Park is adding to its already impressive roster of coasters with Steel Venom, a 185-foot impulse coaster which uses the linear induction motor propulsion system to blasts riders out of the loading station. The U-shaped track coaster, will not be the same as Cedar Point's Wicked Twister. It will follow along the line of the Six Flag's Superman: Ultimate Escape Intamin Impulse. Steel Venom will cost $8.5 million dollars and will debut on May 10, 2003 when Valleyfair opens for the 2003 season. The new coaster's paint scheme will be periwinkle supports with yellow track. An impressive addition to this Cedar Fair park.
The Experience
Passenger board a train consisting of seven cars, each holding four riders. Two in each row. Riders are then launched out of the station using LIM's. Riders reach a speed of 55 mph as they climb up the 185 foot front spike. As the spiral towards the sky, the train loses speed and plummets backwards, hitting a second boost from the LIM's. It climbs the vertical back spike, and then rolls back through the station, again being boosted all the way by the LIM's. This time the train hits 68 mph as it climbs the front spike. Then it's back through the station maintaining speeds of 68 mph. It's up the vertical spike for the last time, and then it's throught the station one more time and up the front spike at the max speed of 68 mph. The train loses speed and falls back into the station. It climbs a small portion of the back spike and comes to rest in the station.
