The Ride
In 1997 Six Flags Great America announced that they would be getting a Premier rides launched coaster. The ride fell through and SFGA didn't get anything new. Five years later Six Flags Great America recieved not only one, but two coasters to add to there line-up. Both coasters were vertical reverse tracks. Both are inverted types, and both use LIM's to launch the coasters. Two coasters opened in 2001, under the names Deja Vu, and V2 Vertical Velocity. While Deja Vu is more like an authentic shuttle coaster, V2 uses two vertical spikes, one 90 degrees and the other a 360 degree twist. V2 was created by Intamin AG and is one of only two like it in the US. Superman Ultimate Escape being the other, and Vertical Velocity using the same principle.
The Experience
Riders board a 13 row, 26 passenger traim and the ride starts off. The trains a shot through the first series of LIM's. The trains climb a small portion of the forward twist, the train rolls backwards and hits the second series of LIM launches. The trains climb a good percent of the 185 foot vertical spike. Rolling forward once again, the LIM's speed the train up to 72 mph. and carries the train to the top of the vertical twisted spike. Riders rotate 360 degrees and then they spiral 360 degrees in reverse. The riders are rocketed up the rear spike and then plunge forward through the station a fourth of the way up the front spike. The train reverses and comes to a stop in the station.
