Coaster Collection - Apollo's Cheriot

The Ride
Ever since Busch Gardens Williamsburg opened Lockness Monster they have been known for introducing top notch coasters. In 1999 they called upon Swiss coaster builder B&M to build their first hypercoaster. Apollo's Chariot arose from the ground and had it's inaugural run on March 28th 1999. Since Apollo's Cheriot didn't surpass 200 feet in height it didn't really break any records, but the people loved it. Once again BGW used the natural terrain of the park to build an awesome thrill packed ride.

The Experience
Riders board in the Italy section and then start up the purple track to a 17 story summit and then the ride makes a small dip to stretch it's legs and then the fun starts. Riders plunge down a 210 foot drop down a 65 degree angle track section. It swerves at the last minute coming very close to the river. The ride levels out and then flies out of the ravine at a staggering 73 mph. The cars take a quick ride through a tunnel and then up a third hill, cresting at 9 stories. The cars go into the turn around section and heads back towards the station. Into a quick brake run and then the cars dive into the ravine again. The coaster takes a final s-turn and down a 40 foot plunge to level track and into the station.
