The Ride
After D.H. Morgan Manufacturing created Steel Force for Dorney Park in 1997, and Wild Thing for Vallyfair in 1996, Cedar Fair wanted a hypercoaster for their only park that didn't have one. On April 18th 1998, Morgan's third hypercoaster in three years opened to the public. Mamba was more of a recreation of their 1997 creation, Steel Force, but there are a few visual differences. Where Steel Force uses tunnel, Mamba uses none making for an even more exciting ride. The major modifications to that were used in Mamba are the the double rabbit hop at the end of the ride and the diving double-helix at the midpoint of the ride.
The Experience
This Morgan creation starts with a slight bend as the trains exit the station, before engaging onto the chain lift. From there the cars are carried up a 205 foot hill, then they plunge down a 65 degree drop all the way to the ground. At the bottom the trains then climb and crest a 165 foot camelback. Riders then experience a 10 story climb to the climax point of the ride. The cars roll into a double helix towards a mid-course brake block. Riders then start the return trip and experience a series of rabit hops. After the train clears the last hop, it's into an S-turn, and back to the station.
