The Ride
In 1999 Six Flags turned to B&M to build a hyper coaster for Great America. The coaster would be 202 feet and run at an astonishing 73 mph, within 5,057 feet of track. Six Flags Great America fastest and tallest coaster is also the first hyper twister rollercoaster. This coaster also has a unique seating arrangement. Riders board one of the 4 seat deep, nine row trains. They are strapped into elevated seats so that their feet don't touch the floor of the coaster train. A T-shaped lapbar holds them in place within the sideless cars.
The Experience
As you board the coaster you notice the orange and wine colored structure looming in the background. The ride begins with a 180 degree turn and the chain picks up the car to car it up 200 feet above the ground. The train dips and makes the 65 degree drop, 208 feet into a cavern. After the tunnel the train goes skyward again and up a 17 story banked turn around. Riders charge back down and cross over the tunnel and into a Camelback hill and then climb a fourth hill into a banked turn. The coaster crosses over the lift hill and and heads through a fan curve. The train enters a mid-course braking station. Then it's throught a Camelback Hump and banks through a curve circling the first drop. A figure-eight maneuver ends the ride as the train rolls into the brakes.
