Coaster Collection - Lightning Racer
The Ride
Hershey Park decided to kick off the new millennium with a bang, or should I say a flash of lightning. That's right a flash of lightning. After seeing the success of Gwazi at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay they contacted GCI to build a dueling/racing coaster. Lightning Racer was built by CGI. It's Hershey's first ever dueling/racing coaster. Something to be proud of considering it's the only dueling/racing coaster in North America. The twisted design off the Lightning Racer fits perfectly in the new Midway America section right across from the popular Wildcat also built by GCI.

The Experience
The ride begins by riders choosing whether they want to ride Thunder or Lightning. Once the trains are full, they depart the station and climb the side-by-side lift hills. The trains drop of in a spiral towards the ground and they race over two camelbacks. Next the trains race through a one of a kind element. The syphon drop. The trains then race through the straight run and into a tunnel with lightning effects. The trains race towards a waterfall and swerve off at the last moment, but get close enough to mist riders. The trains race back to the finish line and a winner is declared.
